These groups are an important part of our small group ministry at Porterville Church of the Nazarene. They are designed to encourage trust, accountability and significant spiritual growth for all who attend. With such goals in place, deep friendships are formed and support is given to every member of the group. The structure of an effective small group gives participants time to explore Biblical truth within a flexible time schedule. Most groups spend about 1 1/2 hours in their group session. The format is group discussion and not a lecture style approach. You will make lasting friendships with the people in your group. Currently, three groups meet weekly. Each of these small groups utilizes a different curriculum so contact the group leader for a full explanation regarding materials. Typically, an aspect of Christian life is the basis for each discussion period. Some review the pastor's sermon and make Biblical and practical application to their lives. Others use Biblical material that explores some aspect of Christian living. Small groups are designed to multiply in number and increase the opportunity for meaningful discipleship to take place. This creates a foundation for spiritual and numerical growth for His church. Training for small group leadership will be offered this summer for those asked to lead or begin a small group. Every Christian should plan to be a part of a small group experience. Staying on the growing edge of a deepening relationship with Christ is a joy!
