Expect The Unexpected

What expectations did you have as you came to church today? Will they be met, will you be disappointed, and what if the unexpected happens?

Setting the scene, Luke 5

Jesus demonstrated His authority over nature, vs. 1-11;

Jesus illustrated His authority over disease, vs. 12-16;

Today, we will discover His authority over a disability as well as the authority to forgive, vs. 17-26.

Who was there?

The crowd, v. 19;

The Pharisees and teachers of the Law, v. 17;

Some men, vs. 18-20;

Biblical Faith: The assured reliance on God; a confident dependence on the character, ability, strength and truth of God and His promises, Hebrews 11:1;

Faith is belief, which is acknowledgement, and trust, which is involvement.

The paralytic, v. 18.

The encounter, vs. 20-26; Faith + Forgiveness = FREEDOM!

Faith – When Jesus saw their faith.

Forgiveness – Friend, your sins are forgiven.

The religious leaders’ reaction, v. 21.

Jesus’ response, vs. 22-24; Daniel 7:13-14.

Freedom – I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.

Question: What shoes are you wearing in this story…the crowd…the religious leaders…the paralytic friends?
