What expectations did you have as you came to church today? Will they be met, will you be disappointed, and what if the unexpected happens?
Setting the scene, Luke 5
Jesus demonstrated His authority over nature, vs. 1-11;
Jesus illustrated His authority over disease, vs. 12-16;
Today, we will discover His authority over a disability as well as the authority to forgive, vs. 17-26.
Who was there?
The crowd, v. 19;
The Pharisees and teachers of the Law, v. 17;
Some men, vs. 18-20;
Biblical Faith: The assured reliance on God; a confident dependence on the character, ability, strength and truth of God and His promises, Hebrews 11:1;
Faith is belief, which is acknowledgement, and trust, which is involvement.
The paralytic, v. 18.
The encounter, vs. 20-26; Faith + Forgiveness = FREEDOM!
Faith – When Jesus saw their faith.
Forgiveness – Friend, your sins are forgiven.
The religious leaders’ reaction, v. 21.
Jesus’ response, vs. 22-24; Daniel 7:13-14.
Freedom – I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.
