Living Right Side Up – Luke 6:36-42

Jesus wants us to learn how to judge correctly.

Luke 6:36, Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
If we are to judge correctly, we need to learn from the best…God.

V.37, Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be
forgiven.
The ‘Jesus way’ is to judge not with a sense of condemnation, but with discernment.

V. 38, For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
The idea here is that we ‘weigh’ the deeds of others on the side of generosity, giving the benefit of the doubt.

Vs. 39-40, Be careful who you follow.

Vs. 41-42, Jesus’ idea of judging…
We are to take care of the problem in our life, that which God has assisted us in overcoming, before we can help
someone else with the same problem. This moves us from judging to supporting, and to walking with others
through their difficulties.

A word to the wise concerning judging others…
If you’re not on the jury, abstain from reaching a verdict;
Before you evaluate anyone else, evaluate yourself;
Don’t criticize a problem or a person unless you’re ready to be a part of the solution.
