Power encounters are the clashing of the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of this world. In Luke 8, there are four such encounters, and in each case, Jesus illustrates His power and authority over them.
Across the lake from Galilee, v. 26:
A demon-possessed man, v. 27;
His description, vs. 27-29;
What we learn about demons, vs. 28-32.
Jesus’ response, vs. 32-33.
The community’s response, vs. 35-37.
The man’s response, vs. 35-39.
He wanted to go with Jesus, but Jesus wanted this restored man to be His witness to God’s power in that region.
Lessons to learn:
Jesus’ power and authority are greater than any other power, 1 John 4:4-5; Ephesians 3:20;
Demons are a reality and they seek to enter into a person’s life at their point of weakness;
We have been provided the incredible weapon of prayer, Ephesians 6:10-18.
